The Country Programme of Cooperation between the Government of Mozambique and UNICEF (CPD) for 2022-2026 aims to support Mozambique to accelerate efforts towards achieving the targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and meeting its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of children, in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action. It derives from the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), 2022–2026 and aligns with the Government Five-Year Plan 2020–2024, the National Development Strategy 2015–2035 and relevant sector policies and programmes.

How can you make a difference?

The Child Protection Officer reports to the Child Protection Manager (P4) for supervision. The Child Protection Officer provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for child protection programmes/projects within the Country Programme from development planning to delivery of results. H/She prepares, executes, manages, and implements a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, evaluating and reporting.  The incumbent will be working in a conflict setting, and will be required to support training to military, develop key technical tools related to girls and boys empowerment and will be responsible for supporting the safeguarding of children throughout the programme.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education

  • A university (bachelors) degree in one of the following fields is required: international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Portuguese is required.

Desirables:

  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
  • Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge of a local language/s is an asset.
